Paid a visit to Strand last week because my mum was in town and I knew I needed her purse to afford all the reads I've been itching to get.
True enough, I walked out with 4 different titles. This December is truly going to be a nourishing ine for the soul.
So after I picked up The Floating City and a couple other fiction titles, I was starting to think I was getting presumptuous about finishing all of this in a month. Started walking towards the till when a beautiful basic blue cover caught my eye: Men Explain Things To me.
Yup, they do.
On impulse I added the book to my stack hoping that it would be an easy ranty read by Rebecca Solnit. Boy, was I wrong.
She sets it up to be an incredibly casual read with a very relatable anecdote about a dinner party she attended in which she got mansplained. And then, just as quickly as you got drawn into the tale, she kills your soul but by bit by enlightening you on the realities of the silencing of women around the world.
I'm about three quarters through the book now and I've not felt my subway rides to and from work to be any more sad and depressing than this past week. It's been a good downer.
